Erasmus+ Funding Approved for Zahlandia
A New Dimension for Zahlandia
Our project has been selected for funding under the European Erasmus+ program (Cooperation Partnerships in School Education). With a grant of €250,000, the digital implementation of Zahlandia can now become a reality.
The project runs from September 2025 to February 2028. During this time, an innovative digital learning world will be created together with partners from several European countries to support children in learning mathematics in a playful way.
From Board Game Idea to Digital Learning World
Zahlandia is based on a proven game and learning concept that has already been successfully used in German primary schools. In the Erasmus+ project, this analog learning world is now being expanded with a digital dimension.
The plan is to develop a free app for smartphones and tablets, where children can explore various islands and solve mathematical challenges in a playful manner. The special feature: the digital world remains closely linked to the existing board games. Children can flexibly switch between analog and digital learning, allowing them to shape their individual learning path.
Carefully crafted stories, animated characters, and motivating game mechanics are designed to strengthen the joy of learning and enable sustainable learning success. The effectiveness of the concept will be scientifically accompanied and evaluated throughout the entire project.
European Collaboration for Innovative Education
Implementation is carried out by an international consortium comprising research, education, software development, and the creative industry:
• FH Dortmund (Coordination, learning research, and evaluation)
• Atlantic Infinity, Portugal (Software development)
• ArtQuest, Bulgaria (Graphics and animation)
• Ingenious Knowledge, Germany (Content development)
• Partner schools in Spain and Croatia (Practical testing and evaluation)
Roadmap to 2028
The first months of the project are dedicated to concept development and further refinement of the existing learning world. This is followed by technical implementation, including programming, graphic design, and content development. In the final project phase, Zahlandia will be tested in schools and families, scientifically evaluated, and disseminated across Europe.
Shaping the Future of Learning Together
The approval of the Erasmus+ funding is a great recognition of the Zahlandia team's work so far and an important step into the future. With support from the European Union, we can realize our vision: to enable children to have a motivating, inclusive, and modern access to the world of mathematics.
We would like to thank all project partners, supporters, as well as all schools, families, and children who are already bringing Zahlandia to life today.
The journey begins – and we look forward to sharing the next steps with you.
